Step Ladder Records delves into the experimental, whimsical and ethereal with their first ever Stage & Radio event…

Expect synths, noise, psychedelia, skiffle, breakbeats and steel pan drums.

ZOLATEC:

Breakbeats stutter in dark soundscapes, cut with steelpan polyrhythms, ethereal vocals and shoegaze textures. Wide basslines pay homage to sound system subs, shaping dynamic build-ups and heavy drops.

Born in Leicester, ZOLATEC is an experienced pannist and music producer. Inspired by music ranging from metal to dub, she uses software to fuse these influences into her own dark & melodic compositions, creating a unique live set performed differently each time.

ZOLATEC taught herself how to use Ableton Live during the COVID lockdown period in 2020, and in May 2023 performed her first-ever live set at SOUP, Manchester.

“The complex experience of consciousness is as beautiful and chaotic as the music I make. The mission is to serve as an anchor to all those riding the wave. You are not alone, and here’s something you can relate to.”

“My music addresses the shortfall of authentic steel drums in music. The Island instrument was only standardized in the 1930’s, and is still relatively new. Many producers choose to use a pitched up/down sample of the drum, creating an instant loss in the dynamics and beauty of the sound.”

-The Magic Pennies

Psychedelic pre-apocalyptic protest skiffle from beneath the stress of glorious Manchester, weaving stories straight from the mountain down throughout our unreal city. Take a hand, and shimmy sideways across the void. Expect a jangly blend of psych folk, garage, surf and country soundscapes.

Forming in 2023, they have supported acts such as Ask My Bull, Galivantes and Rum Buffalo across Manchester venues including Band on the Wall, Old Abbey Taphouse and Six Trees.
